The Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) charitable foundation that supports the animals served by the County of Los Angeles' Department of Animal Care and Control. Through the leadership of a volunteer Board of Directors, money raised by the Foundation is used in many ways to enhance the care and increase the adoption of unwanted animals.

Through the SAVE (Spay, Adopt, Vaccinate, Educate) Program, the Foundation subsidizes spay/neuter costs for each new adoption. This has increased adoptions by 30% and placed many more animals into new, loving homes.

The Foundation provides many other benefits for the animals, such as medical equipment for injured animals, pet exercise areas, vaccinations, grooming rooms, and emergency animal rescue equipment. The Foundation has also purchased security systems to protect high-risk animals from theft, and paid for specialized training for staff to increase competency in animal care.

Donors contribute to the Foundation in several ways. Donations can be made at any time of the year by mailing checks to the address listed above. Gifts can be made to celebrate the adoption of a pet or to honor a birthday or other special day of a pet or loved one. Memorial contributions can be made in the name of people or special animals that have passed away. Copies of the pet bereavement poem, "The Rainbow Bridge", are mailed to the owners of deceased pets who are so memorialized. Acknowledgements of each donation are made to both the donor and the person or owner in whose name the gift was made. To make a gift, use the special memorial or tribute form.

The Foundation is grateful to receive bequests from pet lovers who remembered the Foundation in their will. These gifts ensure the donor's wishes for animal care and protection are carried out for many years to come. Donors do not have to be wealthy to leave a legacy for the animals. The Foundation also sells Designer Pet Tags that combine the official Los Angeles County pet licensing tag and a standard identification tag with the owner's contact information. Each tag costs only $15.00 and is available in either stainless steel or heavy-duty plastic. Tags come in a variety of sizes and colors.
