The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) recognizes that federal immigration actions can deeply impact families — including their beloved pets. No one should have to face the fear of separation without knowing their options.
If you or someone you know is at risk of deportation or detention, DACC is here to help you plan for your pet’s safety and well-being. Our goal is to keep pets and families together whenever possible, and to ensure that every animal continues to receive care and compassion.
In addition, DACC has conducted interviews with major news platforms, including Spectrum, CNN, and People Magazine. These discussions aim to raise awareness in the community about the support DACC can provide to pet owners who are facing deportations or planning to self-deport and cannot take their pet with them. DACC is dedicated to ensuring that pets continue to receive the care they need during these challenging times, providing peace of mind to pet owners who may be worried about their furry companions.
Below you’ll find resources to help you prepare and connect with support, including our Pets Are Family Program, a Pet Profile form to plan for your pet’s care, and a checklist of what to do if you’re facing immigration-related challenges.
Federal immigration operations have contributed to an increase in animals entering shelters. These videos explain how DACC supports pet owners and protects pets during immigration related challenges.
You are not alone — and LA County is committed to standing by every member of our community, regardless of immigration status.
