Urges Pet Owners to Keep Pets Safe This New Year’s Eve
As New Year’s Eve approaches, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control is reminding pet owners to take precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of their furry companions during the celebrations. With the loud sounds of fireworks and festivities, many pets can become anxious or frightened.
DACC encourages all pet owners to keep their pets indoors during the New Year’s Eve celebrations. Creating a safe space in your home can help alleviate your pet’s stress. Indoor environments are the safest option, providing comfort and security for your pets as they navigate the noise and excitement of the evening.
“Fireworks can be extremely distressing for pets, leading to anxiety and even escape attempts, “ said Chief Deputy Danny Ubario. “We urge all pet owners to be responsible and keep their pets indoors, providing them with a safe and quiet space to ride out the celebrations. It’s also crucial to ensure that pets have up-to-date identification tags and are microchipped, so they can be reunited with their families if they do happen to escape.”
In the unfortunate event that your pet does get loose, having a current identification tag on their collar and being microchipped significantly increases the chances of a quick reunion. DACC advises pet owners to take these simple yet effective steps to protect their beloved companions.
